Wrestling Welcomes Northern Colorado to Town

PHOENIX – For the first time this season, the Grand Canyon wrestling will perform in front of its fans at home after being on the road for the first four matches this year. The Antelopes will host Northern Colorado in their first match at GCU Arena. Admission is free to the match and GCU will be handing out 1,000 free t-shirts at the home opener as well.

The Lopes were able to pick up five individual victories at this past weekend's Gopher Duals hosted by the No. 17 team in the nation, Minnesota. Against the Gophers, Virginia and South Dakota State, GCU's Blake Monty picked up two wins at 149-pounds while Daniel Chaid went 2-1 in the heavyweight class. Earning GCU's final win of the weekend was Trayton Libolt in his second straight match at 125-pounds. Northern Colorado is coming off a 2014-15 season where they went 5-6 and defeated GCU 30-9 in Greeley, Colo.

Scouting Northern Colorado
The Bears have competed in two open's to start the 2015-16 season, beginning with their own Northern Colorado Open and the Cowboy Open hosted by Wyoming. Northern Colorado had five first-place finishes at the Northern Colorado Open from Trey Andrews (125), Eleazar DeLuca (157), Keilan Torres (165), Dylan Gabel (184), and Trent Noon (197). At the Cowboy Open, DeLuca, Torres, Noon and Nikko Reyes were crowned champions in their respective weight classes.
