PHOENIX, Ariz. – The GCU men's tennis team continues to show their winning ways after defeating Hawai'i at home yesterday. The team came back after losing the doubles point dominating once again in singles play
Freshman
Tim Hohmann made his Lopes debut in doubles as he and junior
Charlie Pade defeated Adriano Dzhenev and Kent Mueller of Hawai'i, getting the only victory for the Lopes in doubles.
After losing the doubles point, the Lopes showed again how skilled they are in singles play.
The match started off with
Brice Patoux getting the win on Court 5 in quick fashion against Adriano Dzhenev. With this win Brice is undefeated in singles play this year.
Sophomore
Diordan Macababbad also secured a point for the Lopes on Court 4, winning his match 6-4, 6-0.
Pade brought the Lopes to within one point of the win over on Court 6 defeating Toa Maeda 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
This led to sophomore
Tristan Berard or sophomore
Daniel Jankoski needing to win their courts for the victory.
Berard was the one as he came back down 0-3 in the final set to eventually pulling it off 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 on Court 1.
Although Jankoski's match was called unfinished, he nearly came back down 1-4 in the final set as well as he was leading in the tiebreaker before Berard's win.
"Our guys were able to come back after losing the doubles point and find four singles wins." Said GCU head coach
Ross Wilson, "It says a lot about our guys' belief in each other and their willingness to do whatever it takes to win."
"For Tristan to come back after being down 3-0 in the third and clinch the final point for us was huge for our team. He has made massive improvements in his game since the Fall. He is a beast and loves to compete, "said Ross.
The Lopes have a three game home stand this upcoming weekend as they take on Lipscomb, Boise State, and UC San Diego.
