Grand Canyon took part in two different track and field meets over the weekend, sending a handful of multi-event competitors to the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, California, and a much larger group of over 60 athletes to the Glendale Invitational.
Senior multi-event athlete
Casey Tow made the biggest splash by jumping into NCAA qualifying position in the decathlon, while the Lopes back in Glendale posted multiple marks that entered the top 10 of the WAC outdoor performance lists.
Tow vaults to NCAA qualifying position
In a loaded decathlon field in Azusa that competed on Thursday and Friday, Tow finished with a mark of 7,451 — the nation's No. 17 mark. In decathlon, the top 24 marks in the nation advance to the NCAA Championships, where Tow also competed last season.
The Sweet Home, Oregon, native set personal bests in the 100-meter dash (10.99) and 400 (49.04). He finished second among the meet's field in the 400, 1,500 (4:36.84) and javelin (56.11m).
Tow neared the vicinity of his NCAA-qualifying and career-best mark from last year of 7,493. He sits over 200 points ahead of the nearest score posted in the WAC this season.
