TUCSON, Ariz. — Grand Canyon opened the 2025 outdoor track and field schedule at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta on Saturday.
Less than one week removed from returning to Phoenix from the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Lopes sent a squad of about 50 athletes to Tucson. Of those who competed in the outdoor season opener, less than 10 of them also competed at last weekend's WAC indoor championships.
The Lopes saw success in the pole vault on Saturday.
Sophomore
Regan Parnell cleared the bar at 3.96 meters, a new personal best and a mark that would have ranked second in the WAC in 2024.
Senior
Grant Hagaman cleared at 5.08, shy of his personal best of 5.25 but a mark that would've ranked in the top six of the WAC's outdoor marks last season.
In the javelin, junior
Jacob Nash recorded a personal best of 64.87m which would have ranked fourth on the WAC performance list last season.
For the remainder of the squad, Saturday's meet was a chance to get re-acclimated to outdoor meets and gain experience for the upcoming season.
GCU will take next weekend off from outdoor competition, but the spotlight will be on senior sprinter
Justin Raines and his performance in the 200 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
