Grand Canyon junior sprinter
Justin Raines qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 200-meter dash.
The championships will be held March 14 and 15 at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and
streamed on ESPN+.
Raines' top mark of 20.66 seconds came at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 14 and seeded him 15th in a 16-man field.
Raines won two WAC individual titles at last weekend's indoor championships in Spokane, Washington. He ran a 6.64 in the finals of the 60-meter run (after a school-record time of 6.58 in the preliminaries) to claim his first WAC title. He followed that up with a time of 20.68 in the 200 to claim his second individual title.
Raines helped lead the Lopes to their eighth WAC men's indoor team title in the last nine tries.
Raines will compete in an event that features competitors from Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Purdue, Alabama State, USC, Baylor, Arizona, TCU, Washington State, South Carolina, Penn State and Norfolk State.
GCU has representation in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for the first time since 2022, when high jumper Ethan Harris and weight thrower
Israel Oloyede competed.
