SPOKANE, Wash. — Grand Canyon claimed the 2025 WAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship in a dramatic finish that went down to the final event at The Podium on Saturday.
The Lopes claimed their eighth men's indoor championship in their last nine tries.
"It's special," GCU head coach Tom Flood said. "The guys pulled through. We've got a lot of seniors this year, so it was a little bittersweet seeing those guys being done with their eligibility."
Flood has helped lead GCU to 24 WAC championships in the Lopes' 12 years in the conference.
Entering the final event, GCU had a nine-point edge on the men's team leaderboard. A false start by the Lopes' heavily favored 4x400 relay team put GCU in a shaky position, needing second-place Utah Valley to not win the event. UT Arlington's relay team won the event and clinched the Lopes the team title.
GCU won individual championships in four men's events:
In addition to Raines' two titles, the Lopes racked up significant points in the 60-meter and 200-meter races. Behind Raines, GCU had the No. 3-6 finishers in the 60m in
Erin Brown,
Miguel Rosario III,
JoJo Harding and
Jacob Holguin. In the 200m, Raines was followed by Brown (No. 2), Rosario (No. 3), Harding (No. 6) and
Conner Kittleson (No. 8). GCU scored 28 points in both events.
GCU also ran up its point total with 20 points in the 400-meter run.
Cam Wilmington,
Joshua Gittens and
Ben Stratman finished second, third and fourth.
The Lopes also won individual championships in four women's events:
As a team, the GCU women finished in third place behind Utah Valley and Tarleton State.
