LIHUE, KAUA'I, Hawaii – Grand Canyon women's golf completed Day 2 of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Ocean Course Hokuala on Tuesday and is tied for 11th among 19 teams with 18 holes to play.
GCU finished Tuesday at 14 over overall in a field that has 15 of 19 teams shooting over par.
Lopes freshman
Clara Duerr shot 3 over Tuesday with two birdies and leads the way at even par. She is tied for 13th and is one of two Lopes in the top 30 of a 112-player field.
GCU freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola joins Duerr in the top 30, tying for 28th at 3 over. Vakasiuola also shot 3 over, recording two birdies in total and eight pars on the front nine.
Sophomore
Allie Justiz had the Lopes' best second round of the day, recording a 2-over card to move up 23 spots into a tie for 58th. Justiz, who had three birdies, is joined by junior teammate
Lena Tremouille at 7 over. GCU junior
Jess Haines is tied for 69th at 8 over and tied Justiz with three birdies for her round for the most among the team.
Santa Clara leads the tournament at 5 under, followed by Baylor in second at 2 under and Missouri at 1 under. GCU is third of five Mountain West teams competing and is five shots back of fifth-place BYU at 9 over.
GCU's 4.72 average on par-five holes is fifth best in the field with its 111 pars ranking ninth best. Duerr carded an eagle in Monday's first round, making her one of 10 players to have an eagle.
Third- and final-round action begins Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. (Phoenix time).
