LIHUE, KAUA'I, Hawai'i – Grand Canyon women's golf began its week at the beautiful Ocean Course Hokuala on the island of Kaua'i, completing a 2-over-par first round at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational to be eighth place out of 19 teams.
GCU freshman
Clara Duerr shot an opening round of 3-under 69 with four birdies and an eagle to tie for sixth overall. Duerr had two birdies and three bogeys through 12 holes before ending her round with two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 470-yard fourth hole.
Freshman teammate
Alexis Vakasiuola shot even par with three birdies, tallying two of them on her first five holes. Vakasiuola is tied for 22nd, putting two Lopes in the top 25 among the 112-player field.
Lopes junior
Lena Tremouille shot 1 over with two birdies for a 29th-place tie, followed by junior teammate
Jess Haines in a tie for 70th (4 over) and GCU sophomore
Allie Justiz in a tie for 81st (5 over).
Baylor leads the field at 9 under, followed by Santa Clara at 8 under and Nevada at 4 under. GCU is second among five Mountain West programs competing, including Nevada, San Diego State, Boise State and Wyoming.
