Grand Canyon's busy indoor track and field schedule continues, as the Lopes are in action for the third consecutive weekend and head to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the first of three meets this season.
GCU competes in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center for a meet that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and end at the same time on Saturday. GCU will carry a roster of 57 competitors for the meet.
"We're excited to have a full crew competing this weekend in Albuquerque," Lopes head coach Tom Flood said. "The UNM meets are some of the best meets in the nation and it will be a lot of fun for our athletes to compete against nationally ranked teams like Texas and Cal this weekend."
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational marks the first multi-day meet of the season for GCU. Field events begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with the last field events starting at 6 p.m. Field events resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the final events beginning at 1 p.m. On the track side, events take place from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
"We are excited to see some amazing performances in all event areas throughout the meet," Flood said.
For much of GCU's team, it will be the first competition in two weeks. The Lopes competed in Flagstaff in back-to-back weeks but took a much larger roster to Jan. 10's Friday Night Axe 'Em Open and a smaller squad to Jan. 17's Lumberjack Team Challenge.
