The Grand Canyon women's team returns to action Saturday at 11:30 am (Phoenix time) against New Mexico State.
The Lopes last faced the Aggies at home during the 2023-24 season where they won 159-141 in Phoenix.
The last time GCU visited New Mexico State was two seasons ago.Â
That meet began with the 200-yard medley relay, where the GCU team included then juniorÂ
Raphaela Nakashima and freshmanÂ
Paula Martinez Moreno, who took first place with a time of 1 minute, 45.71 seconds touching two seconds ahead of the second-place team. In the 100 breaststroke, Nakashima placed first and Lopes sophomoreÂ
Maria Chatzi took second with times of 1:05.59 and 1:06.37.
Chatzi, who is from Greece, also placed first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.25.
Martinez Moreno won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.10 as well as the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.76. GCU'sÂ
Krisalyn Henderson swam a great race in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.94.
The Lopes return some key athletes after being sick.
Freshman
Beth Young had a strong meet at Arizona State on Jan. 4. England native swam 1:03.43 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:21.12 in the 200 breaststroke.
The swimming portion of the meet Saturday will take place at the Las Cruces Natatorium, while diving will take place at the NMSU Aquatic Center.
