The Grand Canyon track and field team will compete Thursday through Saturday at Utah Valley for the chance at extending the streak of outdoor conference titles.
The Lopes have won nine WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships titles with the men entering the Thursday-Saturday meet as three-time defending champions. Between the men's and women's GCU programs, at least one of the squads has won an outdoor conference championship dating back to 2018. Â
"We are very excited and confident in both of our teams' abilities to have very successful WAC Outdoor Championship meets again this year," GCU head coachÂ
Tom Flood said.
Â
According to the WAC Championships' coaches poll, the Lopes men are predicted to win a fourth outdoor championship in a row with the women also projected first.
"Both teams are very well balanced, and we will look to a great group of seniors to lead the way and for some very talented newcomers to make a lot of noise," Flood said.
Â
The Lopes will have their talent on display after taking 12 WAC Athlete of the Week honors throughout the outdoor season.
Â
"The WAC is a very competitive track and field conference," Flood said. "Both of our teams know that no one is going to hand them anything and that they are going to have to fight for every point they get."
Â
The WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN+ starting at 3:30 p.m. (Phoenix time) on Thursday at Hal Wing Track and Field Stadium.
Â
"We will have to battle in every single event to the best of our abilities and let the officials keep track of the team scores," Flood said.
