For the second consecutive season, the Grand Canyon track and field team is bringing a program-tying largest group to the NCAA West First Round this week.
The Lopes will have 17 student-athletes competing in the regional competition in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The first event will take place Wednesday in the men's hammer throw, where the Lopes will have
Jorden Okyere and
Israel Oloyede competing. Okyere will also compete in shot put, where the top 12 marks will advance to Eugene for the NCAA Championships. Â

In the second event of the day, GCU will be represented by
Ben Moffett in the second flight of the javelin competition.

At 4 p.m. Phoenix time, the first running event will occur with WAC champion
Daviciea McCartney competing in the 110-meter hurdles. McCartney will also compete in the 400 hurdles later in the afternoon.

Jack Hodge and
Grant Hagaman will represent the Lopes in the second flight of the pole vault.

Erin Brown will run the 200- and 400-meter dashes, where the top three men from each heat and the next six fastest times will advance.

Ben Stratman will race in the second heat of the 400.

Thursday will mark the women's opening day of competition.
Â
Alyssa Walls and
Hannah Blood will compete in the hammer throw at 8 a.m.
Â
Onome Ogbeni will throw in the shot put later in the day, coming in with a personal best of 16.09 meters.

Joanna Archer will run in sixth heat of the 800Â with the third-fastest qualifying time in her heat. If Archer advances, she will run again Saturday night at 5 (Phoenix time).
The Lopes men's 4x100 meter relay will run Friday in the third heat.

In addition, the athletes who advance from Wednesday will compete on Friday evening for the right to compete in Eugene.

Taryn Burkett will compete in the triple jump Saturday in the second flight.
The men's competition will take place Wednesday with finals on Friday, while the women's competition will begin Thursday with finals on Saturday.
