EUGENE, Oregon – The Grand Canyon men's golf team concluded the two-day Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club on Tuesday with a 13th-place field in a field that included six teams in the national top 50.
GCU shot 36 over par for the tournament but ended with a 5-over final round, sixth best among the field of 15 teams. Illinois captured the team title at 2 under, the 54-hole tournament's only below-par round. Host school Oregon took second, while Northwestern placed third.
Senior
Nicky Kling finished best for the Lopes in a tie for 49th at 9 over par. Kling had six birdies over the course of two days. One shot behind him was senior teammate
Craig Passmore, who tied for 53rd. Passmore had seven birdies for the tournament and an eagle in the second round. Four of his seven birdies came in Tuesday's final round to tie for most over a single round in the tournament.
GCU senior
Matthew Pennington tied for 58th, followed by freshman
Gavin O'Neill (tied for 62nd) and senior
Tommaso Zorzetto (tied for 78th).
The Lopes have two tournaments left on their schedule before the WAC Championship on April 26-28 in Payson, Arizona. Next, GCU returns to the Valley to compete in the Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona, starting Monday.

The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed day one of the Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club Monday afternoon.
The Lopes shot 31-over and are in 15th place through rounds one and two. Host school Oregon and Illinois are tied for the overall lead at 2-over par.
Kling is tied for 14th at 4-over, tallying five birdies including four in his first round as he had the best team single round card of 2-under through 18 holes. Kling is one of five players to have a under par total on par 4 holes.
Pennington and freshman
Gavin O'Neill are tied for 61st at 9-over. The duo combined for 10 birdies, each totaling five a piece. Passmore is tied for 71st at 11-over, followed by Zorzetto at 18-over (86th).
The third and final round concludes tomorrow morning.
