EUGENE, Ore. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team wrapped up play at the Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club Tuesday afternoon, finishing tied for 12th in the first of three tournaments in an eight-day span.
GCU finished 41 over in a field that all shot over par. The team's 12 over Tuesday was tied for eighth best among the field.
No. 9 Illinois took home the title with a 5 over score.
Sophomore
Nixon Lauritzen finished best for the Lopes at 8 over, going 4 over in his final round with three birdies that came in back-to-back-to-back fashion on holes 15, 16 and 17. He had nine birdies in total, tied for 19th in the field.
Sophomore Måns Boje jumped 18 spots to finish 49th with a team best 1 over final round. Boje had nine pars on the back nine with two birdies on the front to card an 11 over total.
Junior
Gavin O'Neill placed 59th (13 over) while freshman
Daniel Nilsson placed 66th (16 over) and sophomore
Matthew Diehl 77th (19 over).
The Lopes endure a quick turnaround and compete in the Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California. The tournament field consists of 30 teams, the largest event of the season for the squad, with day one of three beginning March 26.
