EUGENE, Ore. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team wrapped up play at the Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club on Tuesday, tying for 12th in the first of three tournaments in an eight-day span.
GCU finished 41 over par as part of a field in which every team shot over par. The Lopes' 12-over Tuesday was tied for the eighth-best team score in the tourney.
No. 9 Illinois took home the title with a 5-over score.
Sophomore
Nixon Lauritzen finished best for the Lopes at 8 over, going 4 over in his final round with three birdies that came in consecutive fashion on holes 15, 16 and 17. He had nine birdies for the tournament to tied for 19th most in the field.
GCU sophomore Måns Boje jumped 18 spots to finish 49th with a team-best 1 over final round. Boje had nine pars on the back nine with two birdies on the front to card an 11-over total.
Lopes junior
Gavin O'Neill placed 59th (13 over) while freshman teammate
Daniel Nilsson placed 66th (16 over) and sophomore
Matthew Diehl was 77th (19 over).
GCU endures a quick turnaround for The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California. The tournament starts Thursday and consists of 30 teams, GCU's largest event of the season.
