The Grand Canyon swimming team is set for a crosstown dual with the Sun Devils of Arizona State.
Â
The Lopes are coming off a holiday break, nearing a month since they dominated the first home meet of the season against Northern Colorado on the women's side and Arizona Christian and Ottawa in men's and women's action. During that outing, the Lopes set five pool records.
Â
GCU has only faced ASU one time prior to Saturday morning's matchup, and that came 11 years ago. The Lopes men won 133-128 while the Sun Devils women won 179-80 in that last all-Valley dual.
Â
The ASU men's team ranks No. 1 in the country with the Sun Devils' women ranking 19th. ASU is coached by Bob Bowman, who was hired in 2015 and coached Olympic great Michael Phelps throughout his career. Last season, ASU won its first-ever men's Pac-12 Championship.
The Sun Devils roster includes Frenchman Léon Marchand, who holds the world record in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4 minutes, 2.5 seconds, which he set on July 23 at the World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Lopes will look to build on a strong start to the season as the momentum starts to turn toward the WAC Championships in late February.
Â
Saturday's meet will take place at ASU's Mona Plummer Aquatic Center and start at 11 a.m. The results for the meet can be found
