TUCSON, Ariz. - The Grand Canyon swimming and diving program closed out the nonconference dual meet portion of its schedule Friday against Arizona.
The Lopes took last week's tough battle with Arizona State, one of the best teams in the country, and built on that performance with the men's 180-105 loss and the women's 203-89 loss to the Wildcats.
GCU sophomore
Jonathan Rom picked up a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 2.38 seconds. Rom also swam well in the 400 individual medley (4:07.24) and took second in the 100 breaststroke (55.76).
Lopes sophomore
Alex Volkov had a strong 200 backstroke, clocking in at 50.49 seconds.
GCU sophomore
Paula Martinez Moreno got back to her winning ways with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.76).
Freshman teammate
Vivi Criscione took third in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:46.08.
In diving, senior
Isaac Poole placed third in the 1-meter event (288.60 points) and the 3-meter event (274.58).
The Lopes will now look to Saturday, when they hope to defend their home pool against Arizona Christian, Ottawa and, exclusively on the women's side, New Mexico State.
GCU last swam a home meet on Dec. 9.
