The Grand Canyon swimming and diving team will be well represented at the World Championships in July.
Emily Muteti has been added to the Kenya World Championship squad. World Aquatics granted the Kenyan team another spot which resulted in the addition of the 2023 4-time conference champion and Tokyo Olympics swimmer to the squad. Lopes head coach
Steve Schaffer was selected on June 7 to be the head coach of the Kenya National Team, which will include GCU swimmer
Maria Brunlehner.
The Championships will take place in Fukuoka, Japan, from July 14-30.
"This is a great opportunity for Maria and Emily to compete at the highest level internationally," Schaffer said. "By qualifying for Worlds, Maria has also become the front-runner for selection to the Paris Olympics in 2024."

Brunlehner had a fantastic sophomore season with GCU. The Mombasa, Kenya native won six gold medals at the WAC Championships and closed the season by winning WAC Women's Swimmer of the Year.
The World Aquatics Championships will be staged with heats in the morning sessions, and the semifinals and finals in the evening session.
"I am honored to be selected as the coach for the Kenyan National Team for Worlds," Schaffer said. "It is a fantastic opportunity, and I am thankful for it."
In addition to Brunlehner and Muteti, GCU sophomore
Mohamed Mohamady and alumnus Youssef Elkamash will compete for Egypt.
