The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming teams swept WAC honors this week. Freshman
Paula Martinez Moreno won WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week while sophomore
Vitaly Kostin won WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week. Â
Kostin closed last week's competition with two first-place finishes for the Lopes. Kostin timed 1 minute, 38.06 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and 4:25.64 in the 500 freestyle.

Though he is a sophomore, this is Kostin's first season competing for GCU. Kostin has been a force at every meet and will help the Lopes make a push at the WAC Championships.

Moreno placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.37. The Spaniard also placed first in the 100 butterfly, coming in at 54.27 seconds.

Though Moreno is a freshman, she has been a force in the butterfly events while showing strong potential in the freestyle relays.

Next up, the Lopes will travel to take on UNLV on Feb. 4.
