The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving teams were recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America as Scholar All-America Teams for their success in the classroom during the fall and spring semesters.
This award is given to university teams that reached a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
In the fall semester, the men earned a GPA of 3.47, while the women posted a 3.62 GPA. Twelve Lopes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall with 17 individuals earning a 3.5 or higher.
The women led the spring semester with a 3.54 GPA, followed by a 3.35 cumulative GPA from the men's side. Eleven Lopes achieved a 4.0 GPA with 14 recording a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
"Coach (Steve) Schaffer has clearly set a standard of academic excellence for these swimmers and divers," CSCAA Executive Director Samantha Barany said.
The CSCAA, founded in 1922, is the nation's first organization of college coaches. Its mission is to advance swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.
