HOUSTON - The Grand Canyon men's swimming and diving team finished fifth among six teams at the WAC Championships in Houston on Saturday evening.
The Lopes totaled 540.33 points in the four-day meet, trailing WAC champion UNLV (845.5), as well as Air Force (630.5), Wyoming (588.33) and California Baptist (555.33) and ahead of Seattle U (126).

GCU junior
Ian Shultz finished fifth and swam a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 42.31 seconds in the 1,650-yard freestyle, shaving 31.27 seconds off his time. Teammate
Jacob Folsom scored points for the Lopes after finishing 13th with a time of 16:02.55.

Lopes senior
Dylan Nasser started the individual events off by finishing second in the 200 backstroke "B" finals with a time of 1:47.98.
Kainan De Jesus swam a personal-best time of 1:50.22, contributing points to the Lopes. Â

Texas native
Jack Armstrong swam his best time of 43.01 for a silver medal in the 100 freestyle. Senior
Florent Janin finished seventh in the race with a time of 44.11.
Samuel McKenzie and
Omar Elsayd also scored points in the "B" final. McKenzie swam a personal-best time of 43.60 for ninth place while Elsayd put up a 45.10 for 15th.Â

In the 200Â breaststroke,
Griffin McKean raced to a time of 2:00.29. Senior
Alonso Carazo Barbero placed second in the "B" final with a personal-best time of 1:59.84.Â

Adrian Curbelo Tejera ended the individual events with a sixth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:48.92).

The Lopes closed out the four-day meet with a podium finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The squad made up of Armstrong, Janin, McKenzie and Nasser swam their best time of 2:53.95 for the silver medal.

Up next, GCU will head to the CSCAA Invitational with qualifying swimmers on March 10-12.
