The Grand Canyon men's tennis program announced the promotion of graduate assistant
Spencer Hing to associate head coach on Wednesday.
Working with the GCU men's tennis team as a graduate assistant in the spring, Hing helped coach the Lopes to WAC regular-season and tournament championships alongside head coach
Greg Prudhomme and to the team's second NCAA tournament appearance in three years.
"We are very excited to bring Spencer on as the associate head coach for the men's tennis team," Prudhomme said. "He has been in

player development for years and has developed numerous youth tennis players who have gone on to earn tennis scholarships. Most important is that Spencer did a great job with us as a graduate assistant last year, as we won the WAC regular-season and conference tournament championships. He blended in quickly with our culture and seems like a natural as a college coach and the players really respect him as a coach and person. I am looking forward to our program continuing to grow with him in this full-time position."
Prudhomme and Hing led the Lopes to a midseason turnaround that culminated with an undefeated WAC regular season and GCU sweeping the three major conference awards, including Prudhomme's third WAC Coach of the Year honor. GCU went on to win seven first-team spots for all-conference singles and doubles.
"I am thrilled and honored to become a full-time member of the GCU family," Hing said. "I could not be more excited to get back on the court with the teams and continue to build on the progress we made last year."
For the past 10 years, Hing has been a player development specialist working with some of the top tennis players in the Southwest. Many of his players have been awarded scholarships to play for prestigious programs such as USC, Utah and Gonzaga. Hing previously served as an assistant coach for Scottsdale Community College in 2012-13, helping lead the program to a fourth-place finish at the national junior college tournament.
Hing is a certified member of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association and was awarded the 30 and Under Professional of the Year award in 2019.
