Seniors
Ethan Harris and
Madelyn Lundberg will represent GCU at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Harris will compete in the high jump on Friday at 4:30 p.m. (Arizona time), while Lundberg will jump at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the pole vault event.
"We are very excited to watch both Maddie and Ethan compete this week at the NCAA Championships," GCU head coach
Tom Flood said. "They both have had very consistent performances this year and seemed to be breaking their own school records almost every week, which is especially impressive during this very uncertain and difficult season."
Harris is no stranger to the NCAA championships as he is a former Division II national champion. He earned his title during the 2019 outdoor season in his first year competing as a high jumper. This time around, Harris goes into the meet ranked sixth in the nation from his 2.26-meter jump at the Desert Heat Classic. He advanced to nationals with a 2.19-meter jump, placing ninth at the NCAA West Regionals.
As one of the most decorated pole vaulters in GCU history, Lundberg qualified for nationals by setting a school record with her 4.27-meter jump at the NCAA West Regionals and placed third. The Phoenix native made huge strides at regionals as she went into the meet with a previous personal best of 4.15 meters. Lundberg will conclude her successful career as a GCU pole vaulter in Eugene on Thursday.
"Both of them seem to be getting better every week, and we definitely think they both have the ability to continue that trend this week," Flood said. "Literally the sky's the limit."
