COTO DE CAZA, Calif. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed the Orange County Collegiate Classic in fifth place on Tuesday. The event was won by San Francisco, which also claimed medalist honors with Alex Chin.
GCU was led by senior
Marcus Sundlof in his Lopes debut after transferring from Bethune-Cookman. His consecutive rounds of 73 to start the tournament led to a 223 total, which put him in a team-best tie for 16th place.
Lopes seniors
Trevor Lampson and
Michael Salazar (playing as an individual) each finished in a tie for 21st with a 227 total.
GCU freshman
Tommaso Zorzetto finished in 24th place (228 strokes), sophomore
Matthew Braley finished in a tie for 26th place (230) and freshman
Craig Passmore finished in a tie for 30th place (232).
Braley led the Lopes with a team-high 10 birdies in his 54 holes. Lampson and Passmore each recorded an eagle to give GCU two of the eight recorded at Coto de Caza South Course.
GCU is back in action on Feb. 22-23 at The Joust, hosted by California Baptist in Jurupa Valley, Calif.

The Grand Canyon men's golf team was in fourth place when the second round of the Orange County Collegiate Classic was suspended Monday at Coto de Caza South Course. Play was halted because of darkness and would resume Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. (Phoenix time) with the final round to follow immediately.
Through 34 holes, Sundlof led the Lopes in a tie for sixth place. The transfer from Bethune-Cookman was 1 over par through 34 holes. His rounds have totaled seven birdies, eight bogeys and 19 pars.
Salazar, playing as an individual, had the team's best round of the day with a 2-under-par 70. His first round started with three birdies in his first five holes. Salazar had completed 35 holes and was 2 over par in a tie for 12th place.
Other GCU scores included Zorzetto (5 over par through 34 holes), Lampson (6 over par, 35 holes), Braley (10 over par, 35 holes) and Passmore (13 over, 35 holes).
San Francisco was the team leader at 6 under par. Cal Poly (7 over par), CSU Fullerton (12 over par), GCU (21 over par) and UC Irvine (29 over par) rounded out the top five.
