JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team moved up each round and finished in seventh place among 14 teams at The Joust, hosted by California Baptist.
Senior
Trevor Lampson headlined the tournament for the Lopes, finishing in seventh place. Lampson carded rounds of 72, 73 and 72, good for a 7-over-par total that was three strokes from second place.
Lampson was the top WAC golfer in the field, which included conference programs Utah Valley and California Baptist.
Playing as an individual, GCU freshman
Craig Passmore had the lowest single round for the Lopes, carding a 2-under-par 68 in final-round action and tying for 36th place for the tournament.
Other GCU finishes included sophomore
Matthew Braley (tied for 16th), senior
Michael Salazar (tied for 23rd), senior
Marcus Sundlof (tied for 45th) and freshman
Tommaso Zorzetto (tied for 74th).
As a team, the Lopes led the field with 159 pars. Lampson played the par-five holes at 6 under par.
Loyola Marymount won the team title with an 852 total, which was 10 under par.

Day 1
Lampson led the Lopes in their first day at The Joust. The second round was suspended due to darkness Monday and will resume Tuesday morning, with the final 18 holes following immediately.
With the first-round stroke average of 77.9 at Goose Creek Golf Club, Lampson shot a 72 (2 over par). His round included three birdies to put him in third place entering the second round.
Other GCU first-round scores included Braley's 75, senior Salazar's 78, Zorzetto's 78, Sundlof's 80 and freshman Passmore's 81.
The Lopes were in ninth place after the first round but only trailed first-round leader Pacific by six shots.
