LOS ANGELES – The Grand Canyon men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season over the weekend at the Southern California Collegiates.
The Lopes returned to USC's David X. Marks Tennis Stadium for the first time since April, when GCU played in the NCAA Ttournament against the Trojans.
GCU faced five schools in the three-day event across qualifying and main draws for singles and doubles.
Lopes junior
Mariano Argote won both of his singles matches in the qualifying draw, defeating Antonio Varona of Biola in a 6-2, 4-4 retirement and Mason Marks of Chapman 6-2, 6-0. GCU's
Stanislas De Samucewicz,
Loic Van Zeggelaar and
Grzegorz Rudnicki also picked up singles wins in the qualifying draw.
In the 32-player main singles draw, De Samucewicz defeated Huntley Allen of SMU 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the round of 16, where he would fall in straight sets to Concordia Irvine's Yassine Smiej.
In doubles, Van Zeggelaar teamed with
Wyatt Anderson for an 8-4 win in the qualifying draw and followed that up with an appearance in the quarterfinals of the main draw. The GCU pair defeated SMU's Kyle Sillman and John Zisette 8-4 in the round of 16 but then lost a hard-fought 8-5 match. De Samucewicz and Rudnicki also picked up an 8-4 win in the qualifying round.
