The Grand Canyon women's tennis team's two-match winning streak was snapped Saturday with a 5-2 home loss to San Jose State.

The Spartans (2-2) took the doubles point and four singles wins at the GCU Tennis Facility.

In doubles, the Lopes (2-4) had a win from freshman
Natasha Puehse and sophomore
Jana Weiss at No. 2 but fell on the other two courts by 6-3 scores. For Puehse and Weiss, they earned their second doubles win of the season to tie them for the team lead.

In singles, GCU only mustered one first-set win at No. 3 with senior
Celina Buhr. The Spartans extended their lead with straight-set wins at Nos. 6 and 2, snapping the winning streaks of junior
Martina Lo Pumo and Puehse in the process.

GCU responded with three-set singles wins from seniors
Emilia Occhipinti and
Celina Buhr at Nos. 1 and No. 3, respectively, to get back in the match.

San Jose State came back and took the final two close matches with a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 6 and a 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 over GCU juniors
Ludovica Infantino and
Autum Prudhomme, respectively.

The Lopes will wrap up the weekend Sunday morning at home against Colorado State (0-4).
