The Grand Canyon track and field team will return to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete Thursday and Friday at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
The trip will conclude the Lopes' regular-season indoor meets at the Albuquerque Convention Center, which also will host the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14.
At the meet, the Lopes will see a range of competition, including Arizona State, Washington State and UCLA.
Most of the team will take part, including distance runners after they did not race in last week's meet. GCU sophomore distance runner
Jacob Lewis will compete for the first time since breaking the GCU record in the men's mile two weeks ago.
Lopes sophomore
Blake Bennett is also competing this week after setting the school record in the 3,000-meter run. GCU seniors
Paige Hildebrandt and
Elizabeth Balsan will see the track for the first time in two weeks since recording the season's top two WAC times in the 3,000.
After coming off a successful meet last weekend, the Lopes hope to further their momentum to prepare for the WAC Indoor Championships in two weeks. GCU broke four school records last week, including sophomore
Jorden Okyere breaking his third and fourth records this season.
Lopes seniors
Niki Xydona and
Grant Carpenter are multi-event athletes to watch and freshman distance runner
Rylan Stubbs also could be a threat for another impressive performance.
