The Grand Canyon track and field team will have its first split-squad weekend of the season when it divides its roster for meets in Houston and Flagstaff, Arizona.
"We will be splitting our teams up this weekend between a highly competitive meet in Houston and a two -meet at NAU," GCU head coach
Tom Flood said.
Part of the team will head north to Flagstaff for the third time this season on Friday and Saturday, when it will compete again at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome for the Mountain T's Invite.
The other half of the team will travel to Houston for the first time this season as its competes Friday and Saturday inside the beautiful Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Houston Invitational will give the group its first look at the renovations that took place inside the venue.
"The Houston meet will be a well-balanced team on sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and a larger contingence of distance athletes; whereas the NAU group will focus more on our throwers and mid-distance groups," Flood said.
Strong performances are expected again from sophomore thrower
Jorden Okyere and junior sprinter
Alexa Hokanson after they broke school records last week.
"Both meets will have multi-event competitions, so we are excited to see how that group performs over the weekend," Flood said.
