Grand Canyon junior
Siripatsorn Patchana captured the Arizona Golf Association Women's State Amateur Match Play Championship on Friday.
Competition took place over four days at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz., concluding with an all-GCU finale. In the championship match, Patchana defeated Lopes teammate
Alexis Linam 4 and 2 to claim the title.
The championship began with an 18-hole round, as Patchana and Linam were two of the eight qualifiers for the match-play portion. Patchana, the 2018 WAC champion, entered the match-play competition as the No. 5 seed by shooting a 75 (3 over par) while Linam, also a junior, earned the No. 3 seed after firing a 73 (1 over par).
To open the match-play bracket, Patchana defeated Samantha Sandland of Eastern Kentucky) and top-seeded Mikayla Fitzpatrick of Xavier (Ohio). Patchana defeated Sandland 1 up in a quarterfinal and took down Fitzpatrick 2 and 1 in the semifinal.
Linam reached the championship match by defeating Faith D'Ortenzio of Montana 5 and 4 and Jessica Williams of Embry-Riddle 2 and 1.
