A small group of Grand Canyon multi-event athletes will make the 121-mile trek down I-10 to the Arizona Jim Click Multi-Events on Thursday and Friday. Of the seven athletes in attendance, two are reigning WAC champions in the heptathlon and pentathlon in juniors
Grant Carpenter and
Niki Xydona.
Xydona will be competing in her first heptathlon for GCU after transferring from Utah State. The junior enters with a personal record score in the seven combined events of 4962 which is 290 points higher than the current school record.
Carpenter, the reigning two-time defending WAC champion in the decathlon, is looking to repeat for the third time in the event and take home his fifth straight conference multi-event title after winning the past two indoor heptathlon championships.

Sydney Madrid, sophomores
Adam Turner and
Karl Zuber and freshmen
Rae Queener and
James Koch.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday with the 100-meter of the decathlon.
