The Grand Canyon track and field team will return to San Diego for its third consecutive year at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.
The Lopes will compete against some of the best collegiate and post-collegiate athletes in the country on Friday and Saturday in San Diego.
GCU enters the weekend with the top collegiate mark in four female events and four male events at the meet.
In a loaded throwing field, GCU will see names such as USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan and Kansas State.
The Lopes lead the WAC in six events and have nine inside the top 48 of the West Preliminary Round qualifying list.
GCU is coming off its 20th consecutive meet, over 53 weeks, with a broken or tied school record. Junior
Niki Xydona was the most recent Lope to break a record, snapping the heptathlon top score by 313 points at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday.
The women's hammer begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and the men's hammer at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
After this weekend, GCU will compete in two more regular-season meets before the conference championships in Orem, Utah, on May 9-11.
