A Grand Canyon track and field record has been broken or tied every meet since March 31, 2018. The Lopes will look to push the trend to 19 straight meets covering a full year at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Team Challenge on Saturday.
GCU sophomore
Alexa Hokanson is coming off her second straight school record in the 800-meter run. Hokanson's new school record of 2 minutes, 7.61 seconds ranks 12th nationally and eighth in the West Region. The sophomore's performance at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational earned her WAC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior
Chris Linnin Jr., broke the GCU high jump record with a 2.10-meter jump. giving him the school indoor and outdoor records for the event. The senior ranks 18th nationally and seventh in the West Region.
Senior
Daniel Flores is coming off a WAC Track Athlete of the Week award after he ran the WAC's top time in the 1,500-meter run. Flores' time of 3:52.42 ranks first in the WAC and 24th in the West.
After the Aztec Invitational, four other GCU athletes rank in the top 25 nationally in their respective events.
Junior
Paige Hildebrandt ranks third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with sophomore
Cheyenne Walden ranked 12th.
Redshirt freshman
Trey Johnson ranks 21st in the long jump at 7.45 meters and junior
Jesse Newman ranks 18th in the javelin.
The Lopes get the Titan Team Challenge started Saturday at 9:15 a.m. with the men's hammer.
GCU will see CSU Bakersfield for the first time since the women's competition at the WAC Indoor Championships. CSU Bakersfield does not compete in men's indoor track and field, making this the first time the GCU men compete against the Roadrunners in 2019.
Athletes from Cornell, UC Davis and New Mexico will compete at the Titan Team Challenge.
