The Grand Canyon track and field team continues to break school records as sophomore
Alexa Hokanson became the third Lope to set school record this weekend.
Following the trend of the last week, Hokanson broke the 800-meter school record with a time of 2 minutes, 10.56 seconds, breaking the previous record by a full two seconds. Six program records have been broken or tied in the past two weeks by Lopes athletes.
Â
"I feel like we had some really great performances this weekend and now have put ourselves in a good position to make a 'run' at winning and defending both WAC team titles in Boise in two weeks," GCU head coach
Tom Flood said.
Â
"Our distance crew did a great job up in Seattle on Friday and we carried that momentum into today with several more outstanding performances, including Alexa's school record in the 800."
Â
Senior
William Winfield IV ran another fast 60-meter hurdle race with a 7.93 time after running 7.99 last weekend in a photo finish.
Â
Fellow senior
Sarah Root ran the second-fastest time in the WAC in the 60 hurdles with an 8.61 time.
Â
Freshman
Max Myers had the fourth-best shot put throw this season in the WAC with a 15.16-meter throw.
Â
GCU now carries 12 WAC-leading marks into the final weekend before the WAC Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.
Â
"We now have the always difficult task of choosing which 28 women and which 28 men give us the best chance to four-peat as WAC Indoor Champions," Flood said. "The majority of the team will take next weekend off except those battling for a spot on the travel roster to Idaho and a couple technical field events, such as the throws and the pole vault."
Â
A handful of GCU athletes will compete next weekend at the NAU Tune Up in Flagstaff on Feb. 15.
