The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Houston to compete in the WAC Championships from Wednesday to Saturday at Houston's CRWC Natatorium.
The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. (Phoenix time) on Wednesday with the preliminaries of men's 1-meter diving.
In the pre-meet coaches men's poll, four teams received first-place votes. California Baptist finished with the most points at 30, including two first-place votes. GCU and Wyoming tied for second with 28 points each. The Lopes had three first-place votes while the Cowboys received one. Air Force and UNLV tied for fourth at 22 points and UNLV earned the final first-place vote. CSU Bakersfield files in at sixth with 10 points and Seattle U received seven.
Northern Arizona was picked as the favorite to win its sixth consecutive women's championship. NAU received six first-place votes and 41 points. New Mexico State followed with two first-place nods and 34 points. Northern Colorado snatched third, tallying 29 points. Idaho and California Baptist tied for fourth with 25 points. Close behind is GCU with 22 points, followed by CSU Bakersfield at 14. Seattle U rounds out the poll at six points.

Several Lopes men lead the conference in events heading into WAC Championships.
Mark Nikolaev has the fastest time in the 100 freestyle (42.54), 50 backstroke (21.02), 100 backstroke (44.61), 200 backstroke (1:40.81) and the 200 Individual medley (1:43.43).
Daniil Antipov ranks first in the 200 freestyle (1:36.65), 100 butterfly (47.19) and 200 butterfly (1:42.35).
Asahi Nagahata leads the conference in the 100 breaststroke (54.43) and
Bogdan Plavin leads the WAC in the 50 freestyle (19.81).
The Lopes men also lead in all five relay events heading into WAC Championships.
Pietro Hufnagel Toscani and
Nick Benson rank Nos. 1 and 2 in the 1-meter dive, with Hufnagel Toscani leading the conference with a score of 343.2 while Benson is a close second with 316.9 points.
For the women,
Brigit Van Der Vegte leads the WAC in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.42. She also sits second in the 100 backstroke (56.33).
Emily Muteti ranks second in the 50 butterfly (25.59) and 100 butterfly (54.74).
Marina McInelly is second in the 200 individual medley (2:03.83) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.78).
The women's relays are second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.17) and the 400 medley relay (3:46.56).
Menna El-Midany leads the WAC in the platform dive with a score of 178.45.

Preliminary competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. (Phoenix time), with the finals beginning at 5 p.m. (Phoenix time) each day this week.

WAC Digital Network.
