SEATTLE — The Grand Canyon men's swimming team gave a dominant performance this weekend with a pair of dual road wins, 136-69 and 139-66, against Seattle U. This is the fifth consecutive year that GCU won at Seattle.
Day 1
The Lopes dominated Day 1 with eight first-place finishes in 11 events Friday at Connelly Center.
GCU, the defending WAC champion, opened the meet against conference foe Seattle with a win as sophomore
Mazen Shoukri, sophomore
Florent Janin, freshman
Amir Haviv, and freshman
Omar Elsayd won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2 minutes, 32.9 seconds.
Shoukri, sophomore
Samuel McKenzie, freshman
Griffin McKean, and Elsayd won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:06.08.
Both of the relays were dominated by the Lopes with a time of 1:32.9 in the 400 medley relay by Shoukri, Janin, Haviv, and Elsayd. GCU finished Day 1 with a win in the 400 freestyle relay by Shoukri, McKenzie, McKean and Elsayd in 3:06.08.
Four of the solo freestyle events found GCU victories. Sophomore
Alonso Carazo Barbero won the 1,650 freestyle in 16:12.23, McKean won the 200 freestyle in 1:43.21, McKenzie won the 100 freestyle in 45:97 and freshman
Mikhail Lyubavskiy earned first place in the 500 freestyle in 4:38.60.
Sophomore
Kainan Coerin won his first event of the season in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.91 and junior
Asahi Nagahata added a victory in the 100 backstroke in 58:86.
Day 2
The Lopes followed its first-day victory with several strong performances Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. Out of the 11 events, 10 were GCU victories.
The freestyle events were swept by GCU with wins by Carazo Barbero in the 1,000 (9:44.75), McKenzie in the 200 (1:42.19) and 100 (45.61), Shoukri in the 50 (21.07), senior
Wiktor Jaszczak in the 500 (4:43.98) and Janin, McKean, Carner and Elsayd won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:24.50.
Senior
Eran Ber, Haviv, Shoukri and Elsayd won the 400 medley relay in 3:25.45. McKean won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.57 and junior
Cameron Carney prevailed in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.48. Nagahata earned first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:06.66.
Up next, the Lopes have a break until their home opener on Nov. 8-9 at Fr. Edward Reese Aquatic Center in Phoenix.
