AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Grand Canyon track and field team returned to the Air Force Academy and posted solid marks Friday at the Air Force Team Challenge.
"I think that even with a 'weather delay' to a start of an indoor meet, the majority of our athletes performed very well today," GCU head coach
Tom Flood said.
The meet was delayed due to treacherous weather that delayed teams' arrivals to the meet.
Lopes senior
Shanice Lewis had a big night with conference-leading marks in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. Lewis won the 60 hurdles with an 8.54 time and a second-place finish in the long jump with a 5.82-meter leap.
Sophomore
Alexa Hokanson ran her fastest indoor 800-meter time for GCU, winning the event with an altitude-adjusted time of 2 minutes, 12.64 seconds, which ranks at the top of the WAC.
After tying the school record in the high jump last weekend,
Chris Linnin Jr., tied the mark yet again with a 2.05-meter jump. Senior
Tony Crosby also tied the school's top mark, setting a personal record in the process. Both senior jumpers cleared the height on their first attempts.
Sophomore
Knowledge Omovoh had another strong day with a second-place finish in the 400, posting the WAC's top mark of 56.62 and then running a leg of the women's 1-mile relay.
"We will look to get home tomorrow to warm and sunny Phoenix and get back to work to get even better at New Mexico next weekend," Flood said.
The Lopes head to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the New Mexico Team Challenge on Jan. 26.
