The final regular season meet of the year looms for the Grand Canyon track and field team as they get set to travel to Irvine, California for the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine. After a week where four school records were broken, the Lopes will look to continue the improvement and their momentum into the Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships on May 9-12.

Paige Hildebrandt started the Mt. SAC Relays with a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and
Mariah Montoya followed suit with a school record in the 10,000-meters to end the first day.
Daniel Flores and
Alexa Hokanson broke school records in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter races, respectively, on the second day.

The Lopes will send a plethora of athletes to Irvine in their last meet before the WAC Championships meet. The Lopes will send male and female relay teams for both the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay and multiple athletes in nearly every event this weekend.

The Lopes will compete against Olympians again this season as Charles Jock of the United State and Pau Tonneson of Spain are in events that the Lopes are entered in.

Flores will run against Jock in the 800 in the fastest heat of the meet in Irvine after breaking the school record in the 1,500 at Mt. SAC.

Scott Marshall, the indoor school record holder in the pole vault, is the second-highest seed of the meet only behind Tonneson. Marshall will look to get back to form with a solid jumps before conference.

The Steve Scott Invite begins Friday April 27 at 1 p.m. with the women's pole vault with the women's 3,000 steeplechase beginning the track events at 7 p.m. Day two will begin at 12 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay and the field events will begin at 12:15 p.m. with the men's shot put.
