A national leader and multiple West Region top-10 marks have the Lopes out striding quickly in the outdoor track and field season. The Lopes will take that momentum into the Aztec Invite in San Diego this weekend, March 23-24.

Tarasue Barnett returned to the discus, an outdoor-specific event and threw an NCAA DI-best mark of 58.78 meters. Barnett then turned around and threw a 47.35 meter mark in the hammer.

Marcus Flannigan returned to the track after taking the indoor season off from GCU competition, Flannigan used the bottled up energy to post a top-5 West Region mark in the long jump and participate in GCU's 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 relay teams' eighth best and 11th best marks in the West, respectively.

After finishing as a second team All-American in the indoor pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships,
Scott Marshall stayed off the runway at the Willie Williams Invite. Marshall will look to jump at the Aztec Invite in his first outdoor meet of the season, looking to post a top-48 mark that would send him to NCAA West Region Championships and then aim to go to NCAA Nationals.

The meet is set to get underway on Friday, March 23 at 8 a.m. with the men's hammer throw, the first running event is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 110 meter hurdles.
Events Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's javelin, the first running event will begin at 9:50 a.m. with the women's 4x100 meter relay.
