PHOENIX – After a week of solid performances from different faces, the Lopes will travel back to Albuquerque for the final time as the team will compete in the Don Kirby Invitational yet again. A handful of athletes will travel to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington as well.
Andrew Okonkwo is coming off a school record tying performance in the high jump and
Tarasue Barnett enters the meet with another WAC Athlete of the Week award as both will look to continue strong performances this week.
The previous meet, at NAU's Mountain T's Invite, saw multiple event victories for the Lopes as well as a sweep of the women's 60m hurdles, with
Briana Myers,
Sarah Root and
Shanice Lewis going one-two-three.
Ahmir LaMar and
Nicole Cristobal took home triple jump wins,
Nathan Wesolek took home the men's pole vault win,
Tarasue Barnett won the women's weight throw and
Grant Carpenter won the heptathlon.
"We are competing in two of the biggest meets of the year this weekend and with just two weeks to go until WAC Indoor Championships we are expecting fast times and big marks from everyone that is competing this weekend," head coach
Tom Flood said about the weekend.
In another large meet in Albuquerque, the Lopes will compete against powerhouse Oregon, while also seeing a handful of other PAC-12 schools, along with WAC-foe New Mexico State. The total field will comprise of athletes from 40 different schools.

Paige Hildebrandt will go with distance coach
Sara Slattery to the Husky Classic and compete in a large distance field with seven heats of the mile, six heats of the 3000m and four heats of the 5000m.
"This weekend will be the last time for the majority of our athletes that will go to WAC Indoor Championships to compete and will also give several others the opportunity to solidify positions on the team," Flood added.
