The Grand Canyon men's and women's track & fields teams are set for their final regular season meet of the season as they travel to Irvine, Calif. for the 23rnd annual Steve Scott Invitational from April 28-29. The Lopes will seek to post high marks ahead of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
For the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in program history, the Lopes will compete at the Scott Invitational starting on Friday, April 28. The meet will take off with several field events, including pole vault, steeplechase and 5000m. Saturday, April 29 will hold a full day of action to conclude the meet.
The UC Irvine Anteaters will host 1,000 athletes and 22 collegiate teams at the Anteater Stadium for the weekend. The Steve Scott Invite will include some of the best athletes in the nation, including Olympic Gold Medalist Allyson Felix in the women's 100m and 2016 Olympian Charles Jock in the 800m.
Last time out,
Isaac Allanarem posted the WAC top-ranked time in the 400m (47.75) during the Triton Invite. In just his second event of the outdoor season, Allanarem recorded a new WAC-best and PR.
On the women's team,
Kayla Wilson recorded the conference top-ranked mark of 11.94m (39-2) in the triple jump in her first triple jump attempt during outdoor season.
Up next, the Lopes will head to Edinburgh, Texas for the WAC Outdoor Championships from May 9 – May 14. The Lopes will seek to sweep outdoor titles for the second consecutive season.Â
