After sweeping their first meet and claiming titles in all but one event, the Grand Canyon University swimmers will be back in the water this weekend for a dual meet hosted by Seattle. Following a well-deserved week off from competition, the Lopes prepare to take on the Loyola Marymount Lions (women) and the Seattle Redhawks (men and women).
The meets commence at 5 p.m. PST on Friday, Oct. 28 and 11 a.m. PST on Saturday, Oct. 29. Last season, when the Lopes hosted this pair of schools at a home meet, the men defeated Seattle U 136-68 while the women dominated in a similar fashion with scores of 120-84 over Seattle U and 123-79 over Loyola Marymount.
Heading into this competition, several Lopes are currently ranked at the top of their respective events in the WAC.
Estela Davis Ortiz holds the number one spot in both the women's 100- (56.28) and 200-yard backstroke (2:01.71),
Mark Nikolaev's time of 49.78 is ranked number one in the men's 100-yard backstroke and
Alyssa Christianson holds the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.05).
