Grand Canyon redshirt-junior
Marcus Haughian picked up the lone victory in a 34-3 loss at George Mason Thursday.
Haughian, who moved up from the 197-class to heavyweight on Jan. 10 at the Tracy Borah Duals, has a team-high 14 wins and is 4-3 since moving up. On Thursday, he defeated Jacob Kettler 3-0.
The Lopes were in a number of other matches, but fell just short of victory. In overtime,
Austin Trujillo dropped a 2-1 decision to Ryan Hembury at 184. Frosh
Pierre Gaud lost 7-4 to Ryan Forrest at 174 and
Chayse Jackson lost a tough 4-2 contest, at 157, to Gregory Flournoy.
Hembury defeated Trujillo by getting an escape in the second overtime. Gaud rallied from a 5-1 deficit with an escape and takedown in the third period. Jackson had an escape in both the second and third period.
Haughian scored all of his points in the third period, getting the lone takedown and earning a riding-time point.
"Marcus had another good showing tonight with some tough top work," said GCU coach Jon Sioredas.
GCU finishes its dual season Friday with a 5 p.m. (Arizona Time) match at Lock Haven. Fans can follow the live action with links at
