PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University men's swimming and diving team will take on Air Force tomorrow at the Southwest Valley Family YMCA in Goodyear. The swim team hosted Seattle U two weeks ago and this will mark the diving team's first home match of the season.
In the CSCAA Division I rankings, both Air Force and Grand Canyon are tied for 28
th.
Against Seattle U, the GCU men's squad earned a pair of dominating victories. On the first day, they won 136, while on the second they scored 123-81
The team won all four relay events that weekend. Both days featured nine individual events and the Lopes snagged seven of the top slots in each competition.
On the first day,
Trent Trump,
Youssef Elkamash,
Illya Glazunov, and
Mazen Elkamash earned the top time in the 400-medley relay, while
Iegor Lytvenok,
Connor Shores ,
Tanner Brotherton, and
Jacob Lambros had the top time in the 400-free relay.
The 200-medley relay was won by
Mark Nikolaev, Youssef Elkamash,
Daniil Antipov, and Glazunov on the second day. Mazen Elkamash, Lambros, Nikolaev, and Glazunov led in the 200-free.
Lytvenok led the field with four individual wins. His titles were in the 400-IM, 100-back, 200-IM, and 200-back. His time of 3:55.55 in the 400-IM and his time of 1:47.12 are the fastest times in the conference. He currently holds the third fastest time in Division I in the 200-IM (1:46.95).
His times earned him his second WAC Swimmer of the Week honor.
Earlier this season,
Michael Bidak was awarded WAC Diver of the Week for his pair of first place finishes against Bakersfield.
