Grand Canyon picked up its first dual meet victory of the season with a 25-16 win over Embry-Riddle at GCU Arena Sunday.

The Antelopes (1-8) won six of 10 matches and picked up bonus points with pins from Casey Larson (174) and Marcus Haughian (285) and a major decision from Austin Solari (149).

It was only Haughian's second match at heavyweight, both wins. He had been GCU's starter at 197 for two-plus seasons. It was Larson's first match at 174. He had been wrestling at 165.

A.J. Salazar (133) and Austin Trujillo (184) picked up decisions, as did Uzo Owuama (141) one of four true-freshmen in the Lopes lineup. It was the initial win of the season for Trujillo, who entered the starting lineup earlier this month. Sunday's match was his first at 184, his previous contests were at 174.

"Overall, our effort was good," said GCU coach Jon Sioredas. "We continue to wrestle hard. We mixed up the lineup a little bit to get some guys different opportunities and they're trying to take advantage of that.

"We have seen improvement through the year, but we have work to do."

The Lopes split matches Sunday, losing to Bakersfield 43-0 in their second match.
