The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team earned their second-straight NCAA Championships berth after a second place showing at the NCAA D-II Women’s Super Region 4 Championship at the Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction, Colo.
The Antelopes shot a 91-over 943 to punch their ticket to the nationals that will be held on May 15-18 at the LPGA International in Daytona, Fla.
St. Edward’s took the top spot in the regional after their 80-over 932. Tarleton State earned the final NCAA bid after finishing in a third place tie with Dallas Baptist. Each finished with a team score of 950 after the 54 holes, with Tarleton State being awarded the final spot based on a scorecard playoff (1,200 - 1,206). The two squads first played a playoff hole, but that also ended in a tie and forced the scorecard playoff.
Charlotte Jaengkit led the ‘Lopes with a 73 today and completed the event as the co-regional medalist with a 17-over 230. Sonoma State’s Spencer Heller tied Jaengkit and earned an individual bid to the NCAA Championships.
GCU’s
Emily Kaye finished in a tie for seventh with a 20-over 233. Teammate
Ali Thompson (242) tied for 26
th.
Last season, the Antelopes finished third in their first-ever NCAA Championships that were held at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky.
