GCU Picks Up 10th Dual Win of Season

Grand Canyon, ranked No. 6 in the Division II Basford Poll and No. 12 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, improved to 10-4 in dual meets with an impressive 33-7 victory over NAIA No. 16 Menlo College at Atherton, Calif., Friday.
“I’m really proud of all our guys and to get bonus points (in five wins), was good to see,” said GCU coach R.C. LaHaye. “We had good effort overall and look forward to (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) action Sunday.”
GCU won eight of 10 matches, getting bonus points in five of the eight wins. Brett Sanchez (184) and Tyrell Fortune (285) each won by fall. Mike Hamel (141), Bobby Ward (149) and Martin Fabbian (174) each won by major decision.
Kyle McCrite (125), Ryan Miller (157) and Marcus Haughian (197) all won by decision.
GCU will wrestle twice at RMAC foe San Francisco State Sunday. The Antelopes take on Simpson at noon and the host Gators at 2 p.m. Fans can follow the action with live links available at www.GCULopes.com.
