The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team remained in fifth place after the second round of the NCAA Championships at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky. The Antelopes shot a second-round total of 34-over 322 to bring their 36-hole total to 76-over 652, with two rounds still be completed over the next two days.
Nova Southeastern held onto the top position after shooting an 18-over 306 today to give them a total of 38-over 614 after two rounds. Florida Southern is in second place and 15 strokes behind Nova with a 53-over 629.
Charlotte Jaengkit is tied for 18th after two rounds of play, carding a 17-over 161 to remain as the top finisher for the ‘Lopes thus far. She birdied two holes and recorded par in five others to post a one-over 37 in her back nine and a 10-over 82 overall in the second round.
Daniela Ortiz of Nova Southeastern overtook teammate Abbey Gittings for the first overall position with a 36-hole score of one-over 145. Gittings is second with a three-over 147.
GCU’s
Ashley Mooney and
Brittany Penny moved into a tie for 22
nd. Mooney posted a second round score of five-over 77 to bring her total score to 18-over 162, while Penny shot a seven-over 79 today. Mooney recorded 12 pars and one birdie in today’s round. Mooney was previously tied for 37th and Penny was tied for 28th after the opening round.
Tiffany Hewetson is tied for 38
th after posting a 12-over 84 in the second round. Her total score after two rounds is a 23-over 167.
Kelcey Tate is tied for 55th with a 30-over 174.
The third round of the 72-hole NCAA Championship will be played tomorrow on the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. Start time for Canyon’s round three is scheduled for 5:50 a.m. (Arizona time).
