The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team is fourth of 20 teams after the first round of the Northern Arizona University Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. with a 26 over-par 314.
The Antelopes are off to a great start carding a first-round 314, just nine strokes back of tournament leader Eastern Michigan.
Seattle’s Caitlin McCleary is leading the tournament with an even-par 72.
GCU’s Brittany Penny and Kelcey Tate are each tied for 10th after carding 77, five-over par, in the first round of competition. Eryn Olson is tied for 15th with a 78 and Ashley Mooney is tied for 46th with an 82. Charlotte Jaengkit is tied for 54th with 83.
Individual competitor for the ‘Lopes, Tiffany Hewetson is also tied for 10th with a 77, alongside teammates Penny and Tate.
Tournament play will continue with the second and final round of the tournament tomorrow morning at the Oakcreek Country Club with an 8 a.m. shotgun start in Sedona, Ariz.
