The Grand Canyon University men’s and women's track and field teams are heading back to Flagstaff, Ariz. to compete in the NAU Tune-Up hosted by Northern Arizona University tomorrow. The meet will be the team’s final one until the USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26 and the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships on March 9-10.
The meet will consist of athletes from NAU, Arizona State University, Paradise Valley Community College and Soka University of America.
Field events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by running events at 6 p.m.
The men remained ranked No. 1, while the women moved to No. 3 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Indoor National Team Rankings, as released yesterday. Both the men’s and women’s squads continue to hold the top spots in the Western Region.
Following five meets this season, the ‘Lopes have accumulated 19 NCAA automatic qualifiers, as well as 83 NCAA provisional marks. Among those with automatic marks are:
Shavine Hodges in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes;
Brianne Kee in the long jump;
Ann-Marie Duffus in the long jump;
Amber Yingling in the triple jump;
Tyler Sipes in the 60-meter hurdles;
AAron Hill and
Karlin Stewart in the long jump;
Vince Frawley in the pole vault; and
Dominique Hubert in the 60-meter dash.
At their most recent meet in Colorado Springs, the men posted the first, second, fourth and fifth-best long jumps among Division II athletes this season. On the women’s side, they ranked second, third, sixth and 11
th in the long jump rankings. In the men’s triple jump, the ‘Lopes rank first, second and fourth in Division II.
