The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s track teams are heading back to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the Mountain ‘T’s’ Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University today and tomorrow. The ‘Lopes had previously competed up north in the NAU Lumberjack Invitational on Jan. 14.
Multi-events were scheduled to start at 9:20 a.m. today, while individual field events will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday followed by running events at 11 a.m.
The meet will consist of teams from NAU, UNLV, Southern Utah, Azusa Pacific and Central Arizona College, as well as several unattached athletes.
The men’s track and field team moved up to No. 2, while the women are ranked No. 8 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Indoor National Team Rankings, as released earlier this week. The men’s team is making their first-ever appearance in the top three. Both the men’s and women’s squads are ranked No. 1 in the Western Region.
Following two meets this season, the ‘Lopes have already accumulated six NCAA automatic qualifiers, as well as 35 NCAA provisional marks. Among those with automatic marks are:
Shavine Hodges in the 60-meter dash;
Brianne Kee in the long jump;
Ann-Marie Duffus in the long jump;
Tyler Sipes in the 60-meter hurdles;
AAron Hill in the long jump; and
Dominique Hubert in the 60-meter dash.
